Scottish Wild Venison Lands £500,000 Aldi Deal

Dundee-based Highland Game has landed a £500,000 deal to supply Aldi’s Scottish stores with a new range of wild venison products, including diced venison, grill steaks, meatballs and burgers.

The venison range is available under Aldi’s Nature’s Glen brand across the retailer’s 64 Scottish stores until the end of March and the naturally low fat products are expected to prove popular with health-conscious shoppers at this time of year.

Highland Game was founded in 1997 in Dundee by Danish entrepreneurs and husband and wife team, Christian and Ingela Nissen.  Their expert knowledge of the benefits of cooking and eating venison remains a key driving point behind their business success today.

Christian Nissen, co-founder of Highland Game, said: “Venison consumption in the UK has drastically changed over the past decade. When we first began, venison was exported, or mainly sold locally through butchers and delicatessens and my ambition was to change that.  Highland Game believed if we could convince people that venison is a healthy, tasty and affordable meat, then we could change perceptions and increase consumption levels at home replacing the more traditional fayre.  We’re thrilled to continue working with Aldi in Scotland on new projects as we continue to grow.”

Marion MacCormick, Fresh Meat Buyer for Aldi in Scotland, commented: “At Aldi, we source the best Scottish meat to make sure our customers can buy quality, locally sourced products year round. We worked closely with Highland Game to get this range of wild Scottish venison on our shelves and it is very satisfying to be able to sell Scottish venison when it is in season”.

Nature’s Glen Scottish Wild Venison grill steaks 300g (£1.99), meatballs 300g (£1.99), diced venison 300g (£2.69) and burgers 227g (£1.99) are available in Aldi’s Scottish stores now.
